UK Election Result 2024: Who is Likely to Win?

The Labour Party, headed by Keir Starmer, is predicted to win a majority of seats in the House of Commons in the 2024 UK elections.

Rishi Sunak, the current prime minister and leader of the Conservative Party, served 20 months before the parliament was dissolved on May 30, 2024. He is actively seeking a second term as prime minister.

The Conservatives were the largest party in the 2019 elections, winning 365 seats, which is now reduced to 344 after the dissolution of parliament.

UK Election Result 2024: Election Process

The UK elections are held across 650 constituencies to choose 650 MPs spread across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

These MPs are chosen on the basis of votes they receive from the public. The candidate with the highest number of votes wins the election and becomes the MP. This process of choosing a winner is referred to as the first-past-the-post system.

The party with the highest number of MPs holds the majority in parliament. To form a government, a party needs to win 326 out of 650 seats. The majority can be attained either by a single party or a joint coalition of two or more parties.

The monarch (presently King Charles III) will then invite the majority party leader to form the government in case the required number of seats have been reached.
