Who is Razaullah Khan? The interesting story behind his debut in Pakistan team

Born in Mardan, a town in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Razaullah’s journey to the Pakistan national team is nothing short of a movie script.

Following Pakistan’s heavy 194-run defeat against England in second Test, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made major changes to the squad. 7 Pakistan players were sent back home, including the head coach and bowling coach.

With new players added to the squad, including Razaullah, the board tried contacting him but found that his phone was switched off. His coach then had to travel by bike to his remote and hilly village to deliver the news to him.

However, there is a false claim circulating on social media that Razaullah did not have a passport before travelling to England. Razaullah busted the myth during yesterday’s press conference, saying that he had actually possessed a passport for more than a year before.

Razaullah Khan: What Records Did He Make on Test Debut?

Pakistan needed to trail by a massive 320 runs to avoid an innings defeat. The side once again had a terrible start to the innings, with Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique departing for ducks. Valuable half-centuries from Azan Awais, Shan Masood, who missed out on a well-deserved century by just 5 runs and Babar Azam then provided some stability.

Still, Pakistan were unable to erase the deficit. Razaullah then came out to bat at No. 9 with an aggressive intent and scored 81 runs. The 21-year-old formed a crucial 121-run partnership with Mohammad Abbas in just 123 deliveries, helping Pakistan take a respectable 129-run lead.

With this knock, Razaullah etched his name into the record books by hitting the most sixes by a No. 9 batter on Test debut. Below is the list of batters with the most sixes at each batting position.
