IIT Bombay has opened the registration portal for the Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) 2027. Candidates who wish to study design at the postgraduate level can now apply for MDes and PhD programmes. The online registration with the regular fee runs from October 1 to October 31, 2026. Candidates who miss the main deadline can still apply with a late fee. The late fee window runs from November 1 to November 6, 2026 until 5 pm. IIT Bombay will conduct the design exam on January 17, 2027. The exam will run from 9 am to 12 pm. After the application process ends successful candidates can download their admit cards from January 1, 2027. The institute shared the update on X. It said applications are invited for CEED for admission to MDes and PhD programmes at several IITs design schools and result sharing institutes. It also said that students with an interest in design and an aptitude for creativity, visualisation and problem solving are encouraged to apply. The exam measures visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning, creativity, communication and problem solving skills.The CEED 2027 result will be declared on the official website on March 3, 2027. The scorecard can be downloaded from the candidate portal from March 10 2027. The CEED 2027 score stays valid for one year from the date of result declaration.

What is the Common Entrance Examination for Design 2027?
CEED which stands for the Common Entrance Examination for Design is a national level design entrance test conducted by IIT Bombay. It is the main qualifying gateway for Master of Design or MDes programmes and also for PhD programmes in design IIT Bombay CEED. The exam is meant for students who want to build a career in design and it is not limited to engineers or architects. Anyone with a strong eye for creativity, visualisation and problem solving can appear for it. The test measures a candidate’s design aptitude rather than bookish knowledge alone. It looks at visual perception ability, drawing skills, logical reasoning, creativity, communication and problem solving skills at IIT Bombay. The paper has two parts. Part A is an objective screening test and Part B is a descriptive design and drawing test and the second part is checked only when a candidate clears the Part A cut off. A good CEED score opens the door to some of the finest design schools in the country. IISc Bangalore, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee and SPA New Delhi are among the institutes that accept CEED scores for their MDes programmes. Several design schools and private universities also accept the score through result sharing. For a young designer this exam matters a lot. It is one common test that can lead to many respected institutes and it saves students from chasing a separate entrance test for every college.
