Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has partnered with the Canadian institute, University of Calgary and has launched a Joint Doctoral Degree Programme, JDDP, to strengthen international research collaborations and interdisciplinary learnings. The partnership agreement was signed at University of Calgary in the presence of senior academic faculty and administrators of both universities. Director, Professor K. K. Pant; Professor Karun Rawat, Dean of International Relations; Professor Naveen Navani, Dean of Academic Affairs; and Professors Siddhartha Khare and Komal Tripathi, represented IIT Roorkee.
The University of Calgary delegation included Dr. Sandra Davidson, Provost and Vice-President (Academic); Dr. Tara Beattie, Vice-Provost and Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies; Dr. Anders Nygren, Dean of the Schulich School of Engineering; and Dr. Gopal Achari, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Schulich School of Engineering.
The aim of the partnership is to bridge the gap between academic and research ecosystems. It is also expected to provide opportunities to students and researchers from both universities to work across academic and research ecosystems, and encourage innovation, entrepreneurship and development of globally relevant technologies. The idea is to promote research in emerging and strategically important areas such as sustainable development, clean energy, circular economy, water and wastewater management, and critical minerals, as well as technologies aligned with India’s growing semiconductor ecosystem.

We look forward to building a long-term partnership that contributes to innovation, sustainability and global technological advancement.”
Research scholars and faculty as well will benefit from the partnership from the supervision by academic experts from both institutes and the exposure to diverse research methodologies, interdisciplinary perspectives, shared academic infrastructures and research facilities and the specialised expertise.
In other words, the collaboration is to promote research in clean energy, water management and emerging technologies and will bring together academic expertise from both institutes and improve international academic mobility.
