Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has highlighted the expansion of the state’s Gram Panchayat Digital Library initiative, aimed at improving access to educational resources for students and young people in rural areas.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said digital libraries in village secretariats are helping reduce the dependence of rural students on cities for books and other resources needed for competitive exam preparation.

He referred to a digital library at Khasaha Mohammadpur in Tejawapur Block of Bahraich as an example of the initiative. The facility combines physical books with digital learning resources, allowing students to study closer to their homes.

Digital Libraries Offer Books, Wi-Fi And Smart TVs

According to the details shared by the Chief Minister, these digital libraries are equipped with computers, printers, high-speed internet, Wi-Fi, smart TVs and CCTV cameras. Books and other reading material, including literature supplied through the National Book Trust, are also available.

The facilities are intended to support both conventional learning and technology-based education. Students can use the resources for general reading, e-learning and preparation for competitive examinations.

The initiative is particularly relevant for students who previously had to travel to nearby towns or cities to access better study material. The state government has said that reducing such travel can help save both time and money for students and their families.

Yogi Adityanath said that before 2017, e-libraries were available at around 76 locations at the state and district levels. According to his statement, digital libraries have now reached 57,600 Gram Panchayats. He also said that nearly 60 lakh youth have been provided smartphones and tablets to support digital education.

The Chief Minister further stated that technology-enabled education is being expanded in schools, with more than 32,000 schools having smart classrooms and over 15,000 schools equipped with ICT labs.

The Gram Panchayat secretariats are therefore being positioned not only as administrative centres but also as local hubs for education, technology and knowledge access.
