In a massive development, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have appointed Zaheer Khan as their head coach on Monday, September 21.
Zaheer, the former left-arm Indian bowler has been one of the legendary figures in Indian cricket history and is set to begin his new stint with one of the most successful IPL teams.
Zaheer Khan Takes Over From Stephen Fleming
Stephen Fleming and CSK have mutually parted ways after a long-lived legacy. The development came after an official post from CSK on X.
CSK posted, “Left Arm “Taking” Over! Welcoming Zaheer Khan as the Head Coach of Chennai Super Kings!”
CSK have been 5-time champions but have been struggling in the IPL over the last 3 seasons, missing out on the playoffs (in 2024,2025 and 2026) and even worse finishing last in IPL 2025. These were some of the key reasons why Stephen Fleming's coaching came under question and why he decided to move away.
Zaheer Khan has been part of 2 franchises as a support staff member in previous years. He was the Director of Cricket Operations for Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022. Meanwhile, he was also part of Lucknow Super Giants as their team mentor for IPL 2025.
