CBSE has made an important announcement for Class 10 students. The board says the passing criteria will stay the same. A student needs 33 per cent marks on the combined total of internal assessment and board examination. There is no need to score 33 per cent separately in each part. This news brings relief to many students and teachers across the country. Scroll the article for more details.
Why Did CBSE Issue This Clarification?
The clarification came a few days after teachers and students raised concerns. Their worry was about the secondary school curriculum for class 9 and 10 part 1 for the session 2026-27. CBSE then shared an official clarification. As per the assessment structure the main examination is worth 80 marks. The internal assessment carries 20 marks. The final result of a student is decided by combining performance in both. Every student must appear in and complete both components of assessment. The board has made this rule simple to follow. A student does not need 33 per cent in the board exam alone. A student does not need 33 per cent in internal work alone either. Subjects that are assessed fully through internal work follow separate guidelines. Those rules will be notified along with their own curriculum.
What About Class 12 and Future Changes?
A teacher from a private school in Sonipat, Haryana raised this concern during a CBSE webinar. The webinar was hosted on the topic Relevance of Registration and LOC. For Class 12 students need 33 per cent marks separately in practicals and exams. Earlier the board had decided a similar change for Class 10 too. Later that plan was withdrawn. CBSE said it is continuing with the old rule for now. The board wants to bring all the changes in one go later on. Many other changes are coming so this step keeps things clear for students and schools.
