22 Companies That Withdrew IIT Job Offers Face Two-Season Placement Ban
Twenty-two firms that revoked job offers made to nearly 150 IIT students face a two-season placement ban. Here is how the IITs acted and what students can do next. Read the article to get further details.
Twenty-two companies that had offered jobs to around 150 students during the 2025-26 placement season have now been kept out of the next two internship and placement seasons at the IITs. The decision was taken after these firms failed to cooperate with the placement teams when asked to honour their commitments. Many of the affected students were among the brightest on their campuses with strong academic records. The companies had visited the campuses in the very first week of recruitment and picked these candidates then. Scroll for more information.
Why the IITs Decided to Act
Placement teams from all the IITs met in early September and then reached out to these companies. They urged them to stand by the offers they had made. Some firms agreed to take the students at a later date in October or November and are now sending written commitments. Others said they could no longer take the students on board. AIPC convenor Prof John Jose said these firms were concentrated in software and data science and edtech with IT and software companies accounting for the largest share. He added that some of them are legacy recruiters that remain popular among students and some arrive to recruit as early as the first week of placements.
What the Companies Said and Where Students Stand Now
The companies gave different reasons for stepping back. Some said they were in bad financial shape. Some said their business model had to change. Others said many of their projects had been cancelled because of which they no longer needed more people on their rolls. A few firms did not even respond to calls from the placement heads. Meanwhile individual IIT placement committees approached other recruiters who hired some of the affected candidates. About 20 to 25 percent of the students were placed in this way. Others explored openings through personal referrals and informal networks and lateral hiring. Some are still speaking to other companies to find jobs. For students without work one question remains. Whether they can return for another placement season has been left to each institute. The 2026-27 placement season begins on December 1 and each IIT will decide if such graduates get another chance.
