The Council of Architecture (COA) was founded by the Indian Government under the Architects Act of 1972, effective from September 1, 1972. This Act regulates the registration of architects, sets education standards, recognises qualifications, and ensures professional practice guidelines for architects in India.

India has around 370 colleges offering architectural education with recognised qualifications. The Council of Architecture regulates the education standards through the 1983 regulations, which define admission criteria, course duration, faculty requirements, infrastructure, curriculum, and examinations. These institutions include universities, affiliated colleges, IITs, NITs, and autonomous schools.

This is an aptitude test designed to evaluate a candidate's natural ability for architecture. It cannot be taught or learned, but instead assesses skills like cognitive ability, visual perception, aesthetic sensitivity, logical reasoning, and critical thinking. The test also considers the knowledge the candidate has gained over the years in the field of architecture.

Latest Updates of NATA 2025

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is an important step for students who want to pursue a career in architecture. NATA is one of the qualifying examinations for admission to the Bachelor of Architecture program, along with JEE conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). 

To give more students a chance to join architecture programs, NATA 2025 will be held on selected Fridays and Saturdays from March to June 2025. Candidates should check the official website for detailed exam dates.

As per the Architects Act of 1972, the Council of Architecture sets the minimum standards for architectural education and ensures that approved institutions across India follow these guidelines. To maintain these standards, the Council conducts regular inspections through expert committees. It also reports to the Central Government on the quality of education and has the authority to recommend the recognition or derecognition of qualifications.

Eligibility Criteria for the NATA Examination

To be eligible for admission, candidates must meet specific requirements and criteria. Applicants need to review the detailed eligibility guidelines for NATA 2025 to ensure they qualify for the exam. Checking the official eligibility criteria will help candidates understand the necessary qualifications and avoid any issues during the admission process.

Given below are the eligibility criteria required for the candidate to appear in the NATA examinations as prescribed by the Council of Architecture (COA):-

  • A candidate should have passed or should be appearing for the class 12th examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects from a recognised board.
  • A candidate who has completed or is appearing for a 10+3 Diploma with Mathematics as a compulsory subject can also apply for NATA, they should have at least secured 50% marks.
  • There is no age limit for the exam, and the NATA score remains valid for two academic years.
  • A candidate can take the test up to three times in one academic year, with the highest score among all attempts being considered for admission.
