Who is Maa Kushmanda?
Maa Kushmanda is revered as the creator of the universe. According to Hindu mythology, before the universe was formed, everything was in a state of darkness. It is believed that Maa Kushmanda created the universe with her divine smile, bringing light into the cosmos.
She is often depicted with eight hands, holding a chakra, gada (mace), lotus flower, bow and arrow, kamandalu, amrita Kalash (pot of immortal nectar), and japa mala (rosary).
What is the Story and Significance of Maa Kushmanda?
According to legend, after defeating the demon Jatukasur and his army as Maa Chandraghanta, the universe was engulfed in darkness, with no sign of life. To restore light and energy, Maa Parvati assumed the form of Maa Kushmanda, bringing warmth and radiance to the cosmos.
It is said that with a divine smile, Maa Kushmanda created the initial burst of energy that illuminated the universe, resembling the brilliance of the sun. This cosmic energy enabled the creation and sustenance of all life forms.
After embodying the fierce and fearless form of Maa Chandraghanta to vanquish evil, Maa Parvati transformed into Maa Kushmanda to restore balance, life, and light to the universe.
In conclusion, on the fourth day of Sharad Navratri 2024, devotees are encouraged to immerse themselves in the divine grace of Maa Kushmanda.
