Many languages have a great deal of cultural, historical, or religious significance that goes beyond just serving as means for conveying verbal information. Some languages are highly regarded not only because of their grammatical and vocabulary structure, but also because they are associated with spirituality and poetry.

Some languages are considered as associated with ancient scriptures, while other languages are viewed as being a medium through which art, literature, and divinity can be expressed, therefore, they carry many significant meanings symbolically.

Mostly, the symbolic name of the language is given to it by a scholar, tradition, or community because of their beliefs and cultural respect for that language, rather than due to actual official names of the language.

An example of this is a language that is referred to as being very beautiful and living up to its name as such due to the number of times it has been referred to as 'sacred' in religious and literary traditions. As such, this language has a great status in relation to the importance of the spiritual heritage of that language.
