Indian Passport Fee To Hike From July 1: Check New Passport Charges and Updated Fees

Passport fees in India will increase from July 1. Check the updated charges for new passports, renewals, Tatkal services and other passport-related services.

The government has revised the passport fee structure, which has made applying for an Indian passport more expensive. The updated charges will be applied from July 1, 2026. The updated charges will be applied in renewals, fresh passport applications, Tatkal services and other passport services. The last passport fee structure revision was done in 2012. The recent passport fee structure update comes after more than ten years.

Passport Fee Hike From July 1: What Is Changing?

The fee for a regular 36-page passport application for adult will increase from July 1 from ₹1500 to ₹2500 under the normal category. Charges for tatkal passport will also see a hike along with urgent passports, which will be costlier as compared to the existing fee.

Why Has the Passport Fee Been Increased?

The passport fee schedule has been updated as a result of modifications to Passport Rules 1980. The cost and management of passport-related services is reflected in the new passport fee structure. 

Tatkal Passport Charges Increased

If you want a passport through the Tatkal service you will have to pay more now. A 36-page Tatkal passport will now cost ₹5,000. A 60-page Tatkal passport will cost ₹6,000. These new charges are after the fee revision.

New Charges for Lost or Damaged Passport Replacement

The new fee structure also applies to people replacing passports that are lost or damaged. A 36-page replacement passport will cost ₹5,000 normally and ₹7,500 through Tatkal. A 60-page replacement passport will cost ₹6,000 normally and ₹8,500 through Tatkal.

Passport Fees for Minors

The government has also changed passport charges for children below 18 years old. A new or replacement 36-page passport for a child will cost ₹1,750 normally. The Tatkal service, for a childs passport will cost ₹4,250. These changes apply to 36-page passports. The Tatkal service costs more.

Will Passport Validity Change After Fee Hike?

The validity periods of the passport won't change after the fee hike. Minors will follow the existing validity rules, while adult passports will remain valid for 10 years.
