WhatsApp is rolling out new updates that affect both family accounts and business users effective from October 1st 2026. Whatsapp has now an optional parental control feature which allows parents to set optional safety boundaries for teenagers so that they can manage privacy settings and Meta AI features without reading their private messages.
At the same time Whatsapp’s parent company Meta updated its pricing for companies using the WhatsApp Business Platform. Meta is introducing charges for certain customer service replies and order updates that used to be free.
What are the New WhatsApp Parental Controls for Teens?
To make it easier for families to handle their screen time and safety online, WhatsApp introduced some control measures within the app itself. These can be implemented by parents and their teenagers with just one PIN code.
-
Group and Profile Security: The parents decide who sees the teenager’s profile picture and who is allowed to add him or her to a group chat. Any attempt to make these restrictions less strict must be approved with the parent’s PIN.
Group Chat Alerts: The parents get an instant notification in case the teenager is joining or leaving any group or in case the group membership suddenly increases.
Meta AI Guardrails: Parents have the ability to change the setting from “Meta AI” to “Limited Content” for their teen.
Channel and Status Control: Settings let parents pick what Channels the kids can watch and what audience can see their Status postings.
According to WhatsApp's official blog, both private messages and calls are still end-to-end encrypted. Parents will not be able to read messages sent by their children, and the family can deactivate these features whenever it wants.

According to the new policies, businesses that send automated receipts, delivery updates, or account balances need to pay on a per-message basis. Click-to-WhatsApp ads continue to offer a free three-day period of messaging.
How These Changes Impact Everyday Users and Companies
The upgrades to these platforms differentiate between consumer security and business applications. Standard user accounts continue to be completely free and private for calls and messaging.
Families looking for additional security can activate the new parent controls in just a few clicks. The best way for businesses to control their monthly costs is by monitoring the number of messages sent each day.
