Chandigarh Schools, Colleges Closed: With the COVID-19 cases multiplying rapidly, the Chandigarh Administration has announced new curbs and restrictions to curb the spread of the pandemic. As part of these new measures, schools, colleges and all educational institutions in the Union Territory have been ordered to shut down their physical operations and move to online learning mode. The latest order issued by the Administration says that all academic learning and teaching activities for schools and colleges will shift to online mode for now.
Medical, Nursing Colleges Allowed to Hold Offline Classes
Medical and Nursing Colleges have been excluded from this order which means that they are allowed to hold offline classes and learning activities for their students. For rest educational institutions, the order clearly states that all physical learning activities have been put on hold with immediate effect and they are to switch back to online learning through virtual classes. As of now, the period for which educational institutions have been closed for offline classes is not clear as the order says that it will be in effect until further notice.
New Restrictions Imposed to Curb the Spread
With COVID-19 cases rising rapidly throughout the country, Chandigarh also has seen multiplication in the Coronavirus case numbers in the last week. According to the official stats, the Union Territory reported 229 new cases, taking the tally of active cases to 665 on Thursday. This has promoted the administration to impose new set of curbs and restrictions to curb the spread of the pandemic. The new restrictions include imposition of Night Curfew from 10 PM to 5 AM and Govt and Private Offices being ordered to operate at 50% capacity of the actual strength in regards Group C and D. Essential services and departments are exempted from this. On similar lines, bars, cinema halls, malls, restaurants, etc. have been allowed to operate with 50 per cent capacity.
