Maharashtra Colleges, Universities Closed: Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant has announced closure of all colleges, universities and higher education institutions in the state owing to the COVID-19 case surge in the state. The decision to close down all higher education institutions in the state, including universities, has been taken by the Maharashtra State Government in the view of the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases. Higher Education Minister Uday Samant confirmed the decision saying “Classes of all non-agricultural, autonomous universities, technical and affiliated colleges will be closed till February 15. During this period, education will continue online. Also, examinations of all these universities and affiliated colleges will be conducted online.”

Classes, Exams to be held Online Mode

In line with the latest order issued by the Higher Education Department, all academic activities for higher education institutions will shift to online mode. This means that online classes will resume for college and university students and all learning would take place through virtual classrooms. On similar lines, all and any exams lined up for college and university students during this period would also be held in online mode. The shift to online mode of learning would again post a challenge for several students who do not have the necessary resources for the same. However, the decision has been taken prioritizing students’ safety over other aspects.

Schools in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur Closed

In line with the Omicron surge in the state, schools have also been ordered closed in several metro and urban districts. Earlier, BMC had ordered all schools to be closed in Mumbai Metropolitan area after the COVID-19 case positivity rate in the state reached double digit figures. Similarly, Pune District Administration had also decided to close down primary schools in the district due to COVID-19 surge. In latest news, Maharashtra Minister Nitin Raut has also announced that offline classes for students of Grades 1 to 8 in private and government schools will be closed in Nagpur from 6th January 2022 onwards.
