Indian women registered a record-breaking win against Japan in their opening clash in the Asian Games 2026 in Nisshin. In the fourth quarter-final, they registered a convincing 8-wicket win over Japan with 15 overs to spare, completely outplaying the hosts.

With this victory, Indian women have now registered their biggest T20I win in history, breaking their previous record.

How Did Indian Women Beat Japan in the Asian Games 2026?

After winning the toss, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur decided to bowl first, and the bowlers did a fine job, restricting Japan to just 57 runs.

Ayaka Kato Stafford was the highest scorer for Japan, scoring 25 runs off 47 deliveries. Apart from that, Haruna Iwasaki was the only other batter to touch the double-digit mark, scoring 10 runs off 22 deliveries. Apart from them, no other Japan batter was able to go past the single-digit mark in a disappointing batting performance.

Meanwhile, coming out to chase, India made a cakewalk of the small target. Shafali Verma remained unbeaten, scoring 40 runs in just 15 deliveries, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. Richa Ghosh also remained unbeaten on 12 runs off 6 deliveries as India chased down the target in just 5 overs.

Before that, in the bowling, Shree Charani took 4 wickets for just 10 runs, continuing her sublime form from the Women's Asia Cup 2026.
