Who Won US Midterm Elections 2026?

Major media projections confirmed that Democrats officially won the majority in the US House of Representatives. The party crossed the 218-seat threshold.

Democrats take legislative control away from Republicans for the final two years of Donald Trump's party presidency.

In the US Senate Democrats secured major victories by flipping seats in North Carolina, Texas, South Carolina, and Kansas.

Republicans on the other hand entered the night with a 53-47 majority. These Democratic pickups drastically narrowed the chamber and put Senate control within reach.

On the state executive front the elections delivered split results. Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms won the Georgia gubernatorial race. Her win ended 24 years of Republican rule and now she becomes the first Black woman governor in the state's history.

Trump-backed Republican Byron Donalds won Florida's gubernatorial election and he also becomes Florida's first Black governor.

What the US Midterm Election Results Means for White House

The return of a Democratic majority in the House of Representatives sets up divided government for the next two years.

The new House majority holds subpoena power, controls federal budget approvals, and can block key White House initiatives.

And significant Democratic inroads in the Senate means federal judicial and cabinet appointments will also face heightened scrutiny before final confirmation.
