The Odisha state government has asked all the colleges and universities to postpone the examinations scheduled between March 11 and 24, 2022, due to the upcoming Civic Elections in 109 towns and cities.
The Odisha state Higher Education Department wrote to all the Vice Chancellors of Public Universities and Principals of Degree Colleges to postpone the exams following a directive issued by the Odisha State Election Commission.
Colleges to be polling booths
Since some of the colleges both government and aided have been selected as polling booths the Higher Education Department decided to postpone the exams which will be helpful as the college buildings can be used as polling booths from March 22 to 24, 2022. Apart from this, the students of the universities and the degree colleges in urban areas eligible to vote in the elections will also get a chance to vote. A few of the universities in the state had earlier issued the schedule for the 5th-semester exams for the degree classes on the date of polling for the civic elections.
Three municipal corporations and 106 municipalities and Notified Area Councils in the state will have the elections on March 24, 3033 and the counting of the votes will be on March 26, 2022. The state election commissioner - AP Padhi conducted a review with the commissioner of police and other senior officials of the preparations in two of the municipal corporations - Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The Commission has also withdrawn all COVID-19 restrictions on the campaign which will continue till March 22, 2022.
