Air Force Day 2026: Every year, Air Force Day is celebrated on October 8 to commemorate the establishment of the Indian Air Force. IAF was officially formed on October 8, 1932. For students and graduates looking to build a career in the armed forces the IAF offers various entry routes depending on their educational qualification, age and career preference. Aspirants can join the Indian Air Force after Class 12 or graduation through entries such as NDA, AFCAT, CDS, Agniveervayu and NCC Special Entry. How to Join the Indian Air Force?

Indian Air Force Entry After 12th

Candidates who have completed or are appearing in Class 12 can explore various options such as NDA and Agniveervayu.

NDA Entry

The National Defence Academy (NDA) examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) twice a year. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply for the Air Force wing of the NDA.

The selection process includes-

  • Written examination conducted by UPSC

  • Services Selection Board (SSB) interview

  • Medical examination

  • Final merit list

Candidates who want to apply for the Air Force wing must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects at the senior secondary level.

Agniveervayu Entry

Agniveervayu recruitment provides another opportunity for those who join the Indian Air Force after Class 12. Selection is based through various recruitment process notified by the IAF in its official notification

Indian Air Force Entry After Graduation

After completing graduation, candidates have multiple options to join the Indian Air Force via AFCAT, CDS and NCC Special Entry.

AFCAT Entry

The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is one of the popular entries for graduates seeking officer entry into the IAF. Through AFCAT candidates  can apply for Flying and Ground Duty branches, subject to the educational and other requirements of the respective branch.

CDS Entry

The UPSC conducts the Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination for admission to various defence academies. Candidates can apply for the Air Force Academy through the CDS route.

NCC Special Entry

Candidates who possess the NCC Air Wing qualification can also apply through the NCC Special Entry scheme subject to the eligibility conditions notified by the Indian Air Force.
