Meet Vijay Kumar Sharma: At 59, when most people think about retirement, Vijay Kumar Sharma of Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, is starting a new chapter. He began appearing for government teaching exams in 1999. Over 27 years, he cleared the written papers many times, but success never came. Through all this time, he kept teaching at a private school and preparing for the next exam. On September 22, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath handed him his appointment letter in Lucknow. Vijay Kumar Sharma is now a government Sanskrit teacher. His story shows that age is not a barrier, as long as the effort never stops. Check this article to know his complete journey to success.

Who Is Vijay Kumar Sharma?

Vijay Kumar Sharma lives in Badhwad village, in the Baraut area of Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Lakshman Singh, was also a government teacher, so the dream of a teaching career was close to his family.

Sharma's wait for a government job began in 1999. Since 2003, he has worked as a private teacher at Doon Public School near Baraut. He would travel from his village to the school, teach his students, and prepare for competitive exams alongside his job and family responsibilities. He has five children: two sons serving in the Uttar Pradesh Police and three daughters.

27 Years of Written Exams and Interviews

Sharma's struggle was never about a lack of knowledge. Over nearly three decades, he cleared the TGT written exam six times and the PGT written exam four times. The problem came after the written papers. Each time, he made it past the papers but fell short at the interview stage, a hurdle he faced on eight separate occasions without success.

Many people would have given up after a few such results. Sharma did not. He kept teaching, kept preparing, and kept applying, year after year, until the recruitment process itself changed in his favour. After so many near misses, one change finally opened the door. It was not only Sharma's effort this time, but also a change in how candidates were selected.

What Changed This Time

Sharma was selected this time after the interview stage was removed from the recruitment process. The hurdle that had stopped him eight times was no longer there. He said that without an interview, he finally had the chance to secure the appointment after years of clearing written exams. His marks in the written papers, which he had proven many times, now counted fully. He has been selected as a Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) in Sanskrit at an aided secondary school in Shamli district. Years of waiting finally came down to one moment. It took place on a big stage, in front of thousands of other selected candidates.

The Appointment Letter in Lucknow

On September 22, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally handed Sharma his appointment letter at a function held at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow. The ceremony gave appointment orders to 3,567 candidates selected for government-aided secondary schools across the state. Sharma said that receiving the appointment letter was a major achievement of his life. He was about 59 years and eight months old at the time of his appointment.

His Message to Job Seekers

Sharma has said that age should never be treated as a barrier to a goal, as long as the effort continues. His own life is the proof. At 59, close to the age when most careers end, he is just beginning his first day in a government classroom. For the many aspirants who feel they are too late, his journey is a reminder that a delayed result is not a lost dream.

Vijay Kumar Sharma's journey took 27 years, ten written exam successes and eight interview setbacks. Through it all, he kept teaching, kept preparing, and kept hoping. When the recruitment process changed, his years of effort finally counted. Today, he is a government Sanskrit teacher, and his story gives hope to every aspirant who is still waiting for their turn.
