Every central government employee has their eyes on the other update on the 8th Pay Commission decision. The Commission is holding meetings with employees, pensioners and the organisations to discuss the salary and pension changes that they want to implement.
The most recent meeting was held in Chennai on September 7 and 8, 2026. The Commission then visited Puducherry for further discussion. The next meeting is scheduled in Chandigarh from September 16 to 18.
Several demands have been raised from the meeting, and they have been tabled in front of the 8th Pay Commission. Out of many demands include a higher fitment factor, changes in Dearness Allowance (DA), higher House Rent Allowance (HRA) and better annual increments.
One prominent demand is that DA should be merged with basic pay after reaching a certain percentage.

Demand Of Higher Annual Increment And Fitment Factor
The debate over salaries is getting heated. As the employee organisations demand many important changes to the annual increment and fitment factor. The NC-JCM and National Federation of Postal Employees have demanded a 6% annual increase.
The All India New Pension Scheme Employees Federation (AIPPSEF) has demanded a 7% annual increase. Proposals for a high fitment factor have also been made - 3.84 has been suggested by some. The fitment factor is important because it helps to determine the revised basic pay under the new pay scale.
If the factor is 4, for example: Level-1 basic pay, which is currently ₹18,000, would increase to ₹72,000, before allowances and deductions.
What Happens Next In The 8th Pay Commission?
The 8th Pay Commission was constituted in December last year, and since then everyone is waiting for the final approval. When the decision is final, the implementation and arrears will arrive in the central government employees’ accounts. With consultations continuing, the Chandigarh meetings from September 16 to 18 will be closely watched. Employee demands are only proposals, not final recommendations. The final salary structure will depend on the Commission’s recommendations and the government’s decision.
