Bank Holiday: Yes, the bank services across India are expected to face major disruption in the upcoming week. This will be due to a combination of weekend off and a proposed major nationwide bank strike. All the public sector banks will remain closed, as the employees have announced a three-day bank strike. This is going to affect day-to-day bank operations and will impact customers directly.
This is not it, the bank will be closed for straight 5 days, as the weekend is also a bank holiday. The upcoming Saturday is the fourth Saturday, so Saturday and Sunday are RBI-listed holidays. This will be combined with the weekend holiday and then the three-day bank strike.
Customers will face up to five consecutive days of bank closure, they will not be able to visit the bank physically. This bank strike may also affect the clearance of cheques, cash handling, or loan processing.

Weekend Bank Holiday: Saturday And Sunday Closure
All the banks, whether public or private, across India will remain closed. First, they observe their regular weekly holidays before the strike begins.
- September 26, 2026 (Saturday): Fourth Saturday bank holiday (RBI-mandated closure)
- September 27, 2026 (Sunday): Weekly non-working holiday
Second Saturday is an RBI-listed holiday schedule. Customers across the nation know that all the second and fourth Saturdays remain a weekly off for all employees. This creates a two-day shutdown of physical banking services across all public and private sector banks.
Nationwide Bank Strike (September 28- September 30)
The public bank union has called for a three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to September 30. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) is the main body that has called for the strike these days. The UFBU has already started the strike from 11 September, and now it is for three days as it has already announced. The strike is expected to affect operations in all major public sector banks, including SBI, PNB, and Canara Bank.
Key Impact Areas:
- Branch banking services (cash deposit & withdrawal)
- Cheque clearance and clearing house operations
- Loan processing and customer service desks
- Administrative banking operations
The strike has been called following unresolved demands related to a five-day banking workweek and staffing issues. With the strike coinciding with the financial year-end activity cycle, disruptions may be more than expected.
All the digital banking services like UPI, ATM withdrawals, mobile banking, and net banking are expected to remain operational.
Bank Holiday In September: State-Wise Impact
As there will be weekend holidays followed by a nationwide strike, customers are advised to complete urgent banking work before September 25. As this makes it a five-day holiday/disruption, it is advisable to use online transactions and plan your trip to the bank accordingly. The situation may ease after September 30, depending on negotiations between bank unions and authorities, and authorities have already tried resolving the issue.
