GATE Exam 2022: No Postponement; Check Last Minute Preparation Tips and COVID-19 Guidelines

GATE 2022: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur will conduct the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2022 exam on 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th February. The exam will be held for a total of 29 papers with the inclusion of two new subjects Humanities and Social Science (XH) and Environmental Engineering (ES) from this year. 

With less than a month left for the exam, candidates must follow a few tips and strategies on how to prepare for GATE 2022. To ease the hardships of the candidates appearing for the exam and make them stress-free during their preparation, here are some of the last-minute preparation tips that will help them to ace it.

Knowing Weightage of Different Topics in GATE 2022

As of now when the exam is so close, candidates must be aware of the syllabus and exam pattern. After knowing that, they must understand the topic weightage of GATE 2022. Some of the topics in the syllabus often have more weightage in the question paper, this might help them to score more. 

To know the weightage, they can check the previous question papers of GATE to see how the topics and syllabus are divided. By shortlisting the topics with more weightage, candidates can give more time to it in order to have the upper hand during the examination. 

GATE Reference Materials 

With less time for preparation of GATE 2022, candidates can refer to their undergraduate textbooks. Along with the best books for GATE, candidates are advised to watch online lectures and refer to previous GATE toppers’ interviews to know their source of studies. For now, they must focus on their weaker sections. 

GATE Mock Test and Solving Sample Papers 

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has released the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) mock test for all subject papers. Candidates will be able to take the GATE official mock test on the official website - gate.iitkgp.ac.in. GATE mock test 2022 is based on the actual pattern of the exam and candidates can know the pattern and type of questions that will be asked in the exam by attempting it.

Apart from taking mock tests, candidates must also solve the previous sample papers. That will not help in clearing the concepts and boosting confidence. By this, the applicant gets to know about their strong and weak points with more practice and gets familiar with the questions easily. 

Revision 

For last-minute tips for GATE preparation, revision is very important. Candidates must give enough time to revise the important topics and chapters so that everything stays fresh in the mind. Allot a few hours in the daily study schedule for revision as it will help them in understanding the topics more. Start revising the syllabus to strengthen areas that candidates are good at.

Make sure to eat healthy food, get enough sleep and also take breaks in between the study sessions. GATE 2022 COVID-19 Guidelines 

Recently, the authorities released the GATE 2022 admit card along with set of exam day COVID-19 guidelines. Candidates must take care of the exam day guidelines given below and must follow them. Before appearing for the GATE 2022, here are some important guidelines that the candidates need to remember for ensuring a smooth process. 

  • Candidates will be allowed to log in 20 minutes before the exam starts, to read the necessary instructions. However, they will not be allowed to start answering till the specified time.
  • They must follow strict social distancing norms, wear masks and undergo mandatory thermal scanning at the venue. 
  • Any candidates who are showcasing any symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever higher than 99.4 degree/ cough/ runny nose will have to appear for the GATE 2022 exam in an isolation exam hall created for them. 
  • The candidates may also bring gloves, personal hand sanitiser (50 ml) and a transparent water bottle (if they wish).
  • Any candidates who are found to be positive for COVID-19 on the day of the exam will not be allowed entry inside the exam hall. Moreover, any candidate who was in quarantine during the last 14 days or was in close contact with any person who was found to be positive, will not be allowed to appear for the exam.
  • Used masks and gloves should not be thrown carelessly. They should be deposited in the places provided for the purpose. Spare masks should be carried to cover the entire duration of the examination.
