Schools in Uttar Pradesh have been closed as part of the new COVID restrictions imposed by the state government. As per the restrictions imposed, schools in UP will be closed for all the students until class 10 and the same would come into effect from tomorrow - January 6, 2022, until January 14, 2022.
Increase in COVID cases
The Uttar Pradesh state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath imposed the restrictions amidst the increasing COVID and Omicron cases in the state. The decision to close the schools in the state was thought upon since many of the institutions were shut as winter vacations were underway. The announcement of the restrictions in the state was later put out and schools will now be closed until Makar Sankranti.
It must however be noted that Uttar Pradesh schools are expected to function for the class 11 and 12 students and since the new restrictions do not mention anything about the students from class 11 and 12 it is expected that the offline classes will continue for them.
Night curfew to extend
The state government has also decided to extend the night curfew timings in order to ensure that except for the essential services, people do not go out unnecessarily. The new curfew timings in UP at 10 PM to 6 AM instead of the previous time of 11 PM to 5 AM.
The state government has further decided to reduce the operational capacity of public places like gyms, restaurants, etc by 50 percent which will be applicable to districts that have been r reporting more than 1000 active cases.
The decision to close down the schools was also taken since the children are not yet vaccinated. The state government has confirmed the presence of the Omicron variant in close to 23 people which took the total number of COVID cases above 900. The government has asked the citizens to follow all COVID protocols including wearing face masks, maintaining social distancing, and using hand sanitizers at all times.
