Eligibility Criteria for PSU Job through GATE 2027

Every PSU sets its own eligibility conditions, but most of them follow a similar pattern. Candidates must check the basic requirements below before applying, so that their application is not rejected at a later stage.

Educational Qualification

• Candidates must have a BE/BTech/BSc (Engineering) degree in the relevant discipline from a recognised university or institute.

• Most PSUs ask for a minimum of 60% to 65% marks in the degree for General/EWS/OBC candidates.

• The minimum marks are relaxed to 50% to 55% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates in most cases.

• Final-year students can apply in some PSUs, provided they submit the degree proof within the given time.

GATE Score

• Candidates must have a valid GATE 2027 scorecard in the paper code mentioned in the PSU notification.

• Only GATE scores of the current year are accepted for shortlisting.

Age Limit

• The maximum age is generally 26 to 28 years for General category candidates.

• Age relaxation is given as per government rules: 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), 5 years for SC/ST, and up to 10 years for PwBD candidates.

Nationality

• Candidates must be Indian citizens.

Selection Process for PSU Job through GATE 2027

The selection process for PSU recruitment through GATE is simple and does not include a separate written exam. Most PSUs follow the steps given below, though the weightage of each stage can differ from one company to another.

Step 1: GATE Score-Based Shortlisting

Candidates must first register and apply online on the official website of the PSU.

The PSU prepares a merit list based on the GATE 2027 score, paper-wise and category-wise.

Candidates are then shortlisted in a fixed ratio of the total vacancies for the next stage.

Step 2: Group Discussion (GD) and/or Group Task

Shortlisted candidates are called for a Group Discussion or Group Task round.

This round checks communication skills, leadership, teamwork, and general awareness.

Step 3: Personal Interview (PI)

The interview tests technical knowledge, subject basics, career goals, and personality.

Questions are mostly asked from the candidate's engineering branch and current affairs.

Step 4: Final Merit List

The final selection is based on the combined marks of GATE score, GD/Group Task, and Personal Interview.

In most PSUs, GATE carries the highest weightage, generally between 70% and 85%.

Step 5: Document Verification and Medical Test

Selected candidates must go through document verification and a medical fitness test before joining.
