Delhi University Women’s Safety March: Miranda House Organizes Student Protest Over Campus Security
DU Women’s Safety March: Miranda House students, along with participants from various Delhi University colleges, led an independent, non-political solidarity march, "Hum Auratein Aazaad Hain", on September 28, 2026. Prompted by recent violence against women including an alleged Kalkaji rape, the women-and-queer-only protest demanded structural safety changes like campus street lighting, public toilets, and DTC shuttle services. DUSU also backed the safety cause.

DU Women’s Safety March: The students of Miranda House, University of Delhi (DU) held an independent and non-political solidarity march on September 28, 2026, named “Hum Auratein Aazaad Hain” (We Women Are Free). This march was organized in response to increasing instances of violence against women in the national capital with the latest being an allegation of gang rape in Kalkaji. Only open to women and queers, the march began at the Gate No. 7 of Miranda House and marched down Chhatra Marg to the Faculty of Arts with participants from various colleges.
This march did not demand mere protective measures such as hostel curfews and restriction on visiting public places at night but instead asked for structural changes. Some of the demands raised during the protest march include fixing of street lights at the campus roads and public parks, increase in frequency of the DTC shuttle services, availability of discounted metro tickets and proper public toilets for the students.

DUSU Supports Women's March for safety
The ABVP-backed Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) also backed the 'Chalo DU: March for Women Safety'. In a press statement issued on September 28, DUSU claimed that the march had been planned in response to demands from DU students and focused on women's safety as one of their key concerns.
According to DUSU President Yash Dabas, he supported the protest and advocated for increased security provisions within and outside of the DU campus in areas where women are likely to move about.
According to DUSU Secretary Riya Chhawri, safety of the DU students, especially women, remained a priority issue for DU. They needed to make provisions such as proper lighting, CCTV camera facility, security patrol and provision for redressal of grievances in time on and around the DU campus.
While the above DUSU statement came independent of the Miranda House organisers' statement on how they were organising the 'March for Women's Safety and Access to Public Spaces'.
It is important to note that while the 'March for Women Safety and Access to Public Space' scheduled for September 28 would be organised by the students from Miranda House and other DU colleges.
