Gandhi Jayanti Holiday On October 2
Schools in Gujarat will remain closed on Friday, October 2, 2026, on account of Gandhi Jayanti. The occasion marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and is observed as a national holiday.
Since October 2 falls on a Friday, students whose schools follow a Saturday-Sunday weekend may get a three-day break from October 2 to October 4.

Dussehra or Vijaya Dashami will be observed on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The festival is included in Gujarat's official list of public holidays.
However, students should note that the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) academic calendar does not provide a separate extended Dussehra or Navratri vacation in October. The first examinations for Classes 9 to 12 are scheduled from October 22 to November 2, 2026.
Will Gujarat Schools Have Diwali Holidays In October?
Unlike some states where Diwali-related school vacations begin in October, Gujarat's 2026–27 academic calendar places the Diwali vacation entirely in November.
According to the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board's academic calendar, the first term will continue until November 4, 2026. The 21-day Diwali vacation will be observed from November 5 to November 25, 2026. Schools will reopen for the second term on November 26.
Therefore, students in Gujarat should not expect the state's scheduled Diwali vacation to begin in October.

In addition to the above public holidays, Gujarat schools will also observe the following important academic schedule in October-November 2026:
- October 2: Gandhi Jayanti
- October 20: Dussehra (Vijaya Dashami)

- November 5–25: Diwali vacation
What Students And Parents Should Check
Holiday schedules can vary for individual schools, particularly private and unaided schools, depending on their approved academic calendars and local holidays. Students and parents should therefore check the circular issued by their respective school before making travel or other plans.
For the broader 2026–27 academic schedule, the Gujarat Board calendar states that the academic year began on June 8, 2026, with the first term ending on November 4. The academic year includes 21 days of Diwali vacation and a 35-day summer vacation.
Students should also note that October is not only a holiday month for Gujarat schools. Classes 9 to 12 have their first examinations scheduled from October 22 to November 2, immediately before the Diwali vacation.
