LPG Price Hike: The LPG prices are in the spotlight as a new price hike has come into effect. The state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) have raised prices of all the commercial 19-kg LPG cylinders. These changes are in operation since 1 October. The new rates have been increased from Rs 62.50 to Rs 71 rupees across all the major cities in India.
For all the businesses that use commercial LPG, this price hike is an effect on annual budgeting. While all the households can breathe easy as the price hike is not implemented on the households. The 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder price remains unchanged.
This is not just the reason for LPG to be in the headlines this month. Another reason behind the LPG is a new Aadhaar authentication requirement for domestic consumers. This has also taken effect from 1st October. This rule brings verification into the picture.
Meanwhile, global energy market volatility and geopolitical tensions continue to keep fuel prices under close watch, adding another twist to the LPG story.

Why Is LPG In The Spotlight?
LPG has grabbed attention this month for two key reasons: higher commercial cylinder prices and a new Aadhaar authentication requirement for domestic consumers.
Here is what you need to know.
1. Commercial LPG Price Hike
Commercial LPG prices have increased from October 1, 2026, raising operating costs for businesses that depend on 19-kg cylinders. International energy prices, transportation expenses and geopolitical developments have influenced the rates.
On the same note, since India imports a significant share of its LPG requirements, global market movements and monthly revisions by oil marketing companies remain important. These two things can push rates and keep the overall rates volatile.
2. New Aadhaar Authentication Rule
Domestic LPG consumers are also in focus due to the new biometric Aadhaar authentication requirement. The rule brings an additional verification step for consumers.
This Aadhaar-based authentication is aimed at ensuring accurate consumer records and streamlining the LPG distribution system. This rule will remove all the ghost records aside and the fraud of illegal LPG consumption will be ruled out.
The requirement has taken effect from October 1, bringing verification into the spotlight.

What Happens If Aadhar Authentication Is Not Completed?
-
LPG Bookings: Incomplete Aadhaar authentication may affect access to regulated domestic LPG bookings and subsidised refills.
-
Domestic Consumers: The unchanged 14.2-kg cylinder price offers relief, but consumers should complete the required verification.
-
Commercial Users: Higher 19-kg cylinder prices from October 1 mean increased LPG costs for businesses.
