India won 21 gold medals at the Asian Games 2026, held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. According to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), India finished the Games with 85 medals in total. These included 21 gold, 27 silver, and 37 bronze medals. India finished 4th overall in the medal table.

The 2026 Asian Games were held from 19 September to 4 October 2026. India sent a strong team to compete in different sports.

Important Highlights of India's 21 Gold Medals

1. Archery – 5 Gold Medals

Archery was the most successful sport for India in terms of gold medals.

India won five gold medals:

  • Women's Compound Team

  • Mixed Compound Team

  • Men's Compound Team

  • Women's Recurve Team

  • Women's Recurve Individual

Kumkum Mohod created a special record by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve gold medal at the Asian Games. 

2. Shooting – 3 Gold Medals

India won three shooting gold medals:

  • 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team – Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh

  • Women's Trap – Neeru Dhanda

  • Mixed Trap Team – Kynan Chenai and Neeru Dhanda

Neeru Dhanda's women's trap gold was particularly important because it ended India's long wait for an Asian Games individual trap gold. 

3. Boxing – 3 Gold Medals

Indian boxers won three gold medals:

  • Lovlina Borgohain – Women's 75kg

  • Parveen Hooda – Women's 65kg

  • Ankush – Men's 80kg

Lovlina's victory was notable because she became only the second Indian woman to win an Asian Games boxing gold, after Mary Kom.

4. Cricket – 2 Gold Medals

India won gold in both cricket events:

  • Women's T20

  • Men's T20

The women's team defeated Sri Lanka in the final and won by 147 runs. India made 216/3 before restricting Sri Lanka to 69.

The men's team defeated Pakistan by 19 runs in the final to retain its Asian Games title. 

5. Hockey – 2 Gold Medals

India won gold in both men's and women's hockey.

The Indian women's hockey team defeated China 1-0 to win gold. It was India's first Asian Games women's hockey gold in 44 years. 

The Indian men's hockey team defeated Malaysia 5-1 in the final. This was India's fifth men's hockey gold at the Asian Games and also secured direct qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

6. Kabaddi – 2 Gold Medals

India won gold in both:

  • Men's Kabaddi

  • Women's Kabaddi

Both Indian teams successfully defended their Asian Games titles.

7. Wrestling – 2 Gold Medals

India won two wrestling gold medals:

  • Sujeet – Men's Freestyle 65kg

  • Aman Sehrawat – Men's Freestyle 57kg

Aman Sehrawat's gold came on the final day of India's individual events and helped India move closer to the top four in the medal table.

8. Athletics – 1 Gold Medal

India's only athletics gold came in the women's 4×400m relay.

The gold-medal team was:

Kiran Pahal, Poovamma MR, Prachi Choudhary and Vithya Ramraj.

The team won in 3:29.69, ahead of Bahrain and China.

9. Golf – 1 Gold Medal

Pranavi Urs won the women's individual golf gold medal.

This was a historic achievement because it gave India its first-ever Asian Games gold medal in women's individual golf.
