The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has opened applications for the January 2027 admission to its PhD and MS research programmes. As per the official information brochure the last date to submit the online application is October 30, 2026 by 5 pm. Every form received within this time will be considered for January 2027 admission by the concerned departments. The institute has clearly stated that a physical or hard copy of the application form will not be accepted. So the entire process has to be completed in online mode only. Scroll for complete details.
IIT Madras January 2027: Selection Process and Application Fee
Depending on the selection process of the department the shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test and an interview or for an interview only. The date and the time and the venue of the test or the interview will be communicated to the shortlisted applicants by email. Candidates are advised to check the websites of the concerned departments regularly for updates about shortlisting and tests and interviews. The application fee has to be paid online and it is non-refundable for every category.check the fee details below.

PhD and MS Research Programmes and Admission Categories
IIT Madras offers research opportunities across Engineering and Science and Humanities and Social Science and Management. The brochure states that research is carried out in several areas and that scholars can take part in sponsored and industrial consultancy and collaborative research projects. The PhD and MS admissions cover different categories such as Regular-HTRA and national-level fellowship and project and external and staff and QIP and other categories. Each category comes with its own eligibility conditions that are given in the brochure. Students and parents and teachers should read the brochure carefully before applying so that no small mistake spoils a good chance.
