School Holiday Tomorrow October 5, 2026: Students and parents in India are checking whether schools will remain closed on Monday, October 5, 2026, following the Gandhi Jayanti holiday and the weekend. However, there is no nationwide school holiday announced for October 5. School functioning will depend on the state-wise academic calendar, local orders and individual school schedules.
The October 2026 school calendar includes several festival-related holidays, with Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 and Dussehra/Vijayadashami on October 20. Several states have also announced longer autumn or festive breaks later in the month.
School Holiday October 5, 2026: Are Schools Closed Tomorrow?
For most states, October 5 is a regular working day, unless the respective school or state education department has declared an additional holiday.
One important exception is Tamil Nadu, where schools are scheduled to reopen on October 5 after the quarterly examination break. The state had kept schools closed from September 26 to October 4, with classes resuming on Monday, October 5.
Therefore, students should not assume that schools will remain closed on October 5 merely because of the recent Gandhi Jayanti holiday.
Delhi, UP, Haryana School Holiday October 5
Schools in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are not covered by a nationwide closure on October 5. Students in these regions should follow their respective school calendars.
Delhi-NCR schools have their major autumn break later in October around the Dussehra period. Similarly, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are expected to observe holidays around October 19 and October 20 for Dussehra-related occasions, rather than October 5.
