Important Academic Updates and Important Directives
- The government holiday list is not automatic for schools. Educational institutions in Assam follow their own academic calendar, which may have fewer holidays. So treat the table above as the official government list and always confirm the exact dates on your school notice board, website or class group.
- The autumn or Puja vacation usually runs from 17 October to 26 October, with classes resuming on 27 October. Several schools have already published this window for the 2026-27 session, but the exact reopening date is decided by each school, so verify before booking tickets.
- Samagra Shiksha Assam and SCERT have released the academic calendar for the 2026-27 session, including the October 2026 to March 2027 term, which carries the term plan, exam windows and vacation dates. Parents can download it from the official education portal.
- Watch out for half-yearly and unit tests. Many schools schedule half-yearly exams or unit tests around October and November. Use the Puja break for steady revision instead of cramming in the last two days.
- Saturday working is school-specific. Government offices usually get the 2nd and 4th Saturdays off, and many schools follow that pattern but plenty of schools run regular classes on Saturdays. Check your school’s rule.
- Class X and XII students should use the break wisely. Practical work, projects and internal assessments usually get scheduled right after the vacation, so keeping a light daily study routine through the holidays pays off later.
- Holidays can become working days at short notice. If your school calls a special class, extra class, exam, cultural programme or Puja function, attendance is expected. Check notices before making travel plans.
- Safety first during the festival rush. Puja pandals, Bihu gatherings and markets get crowded. Keep a phone number handy, fix a return time, and go easy on firecrackers.
- Plan ahead for November and December. Kali Puja and Diwali fall on Sunday, 8 November 2026, followed by Bhatri Dwitiya on 11 November, Chhath Puja on 15 November, Guru Nanak’s Birthday and Lachit Divas on 24 November, and Christmas Day on 25 December.
