Kerala School Holidays 2026: Kerala schools will be shut down on designated holidays at the national and state levels in the month of October 2026, giving both students and teachers various holidays during the month. The holiday schedule begins with a compulsory holiday on the national level on Friday, October 2, to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti. This provides a long weekend of three days in case of schools following a five-day schedule. The second half of the month will have the main festive holiday period during the Puja festivals.

There are official holidays at the state level on Tuesday, October 20, on Mahanavami and Wednesday, October 21, on Vijayadasami (Vidyarambham). Keeping the local traditions into account, most educational institutions will provide holidays on Maha Ashtami (October 19) to facilitate the Ayudha Puja festival and initiation ceremony of students. With all the additional Sunday holidays during October 4, 11, 18, and 25, the overall academic workload for the month will be reduced.

Kerala School Holiday List October 2026: Schools Reopening After Quarterly Holiday

Educational institutions in Kerala shall be re-opened without delay after observing state and national holidays in October 2026. The first break shall come up on Gandhi Jayanti day, which falls on Friday, October 2.

As this is a national holiday, immediately followed by weekends, school authorities shall be closed for three days and shall resume academic activities from Monday, October 5. In October, there will be the Puja holidays for students. Government notifications have designated the day of Mahanavami, 

Tuesday, October 20, and Vijayadasami (Vidyarambham), Wednesday, October 21, as public holidays. After two days of festive holiday, all schools in Kerala are expected to re-open and continue academic classes from Thursday morning, October 22. 

Parents and students need to remember that private or mission-run institutions can have their own holidays for Maha Ashtami, which shall fall on Monday, October 19. For such individual institutions, there will be continuous festive holiday from October 19 to October 21, and classes shall commence from October 22.
