Uttarakhand School Holidays October 2026: The school holiday schedule for October 2026 in Uttarakhand includes some important holidays such as Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra that are scheduled in the official holiday calendar of Uttarakhand. The month of October has quite a number of significant festivals to celebrate, giving students, teachers, and parents ample time off for academic breaks. The holiday schedule starts with a national holiday observed on Friday, October 2, for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti holiday in all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools registered with UBSE, CBSE, and ICSE boards. 

Since Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti falls just before the weekend, there is an extended three-day weekend for students in five-day week schools until classes resume on Monday, October 5. Continuing further with the festival mood, there is Navratri and Vijayadashami in October. 

Most of the private and mission-managed institutions give their students institutional/local holiday for Maha Navami on Monday, October 19, to conduct the ritual of Kanya Pujan and conclude the fasting period. Gandhi Jayanti Long Weekend (October 2 to 4, 2026)

This holiday calendar will begin with the celebration of Gandhi Jayanti on Friday, October 2, 2026. Since it is a compulsory national holiday, all elementary, middle, and high schools within the state, irrespective of being affiliated to UBSE, CBSE, or ICSE, will be closed. For those following a normal school week schedule, this results in a long weekend for three consecutive days Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Classes will be resumed from Monday, October 5, 2026.

Navratri & Dussehra Break (October 19 to 20, 2026)

Maha Navami (October 19, 2026): Several mission schools, private schools, and local schools located in Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, and Haldwani provide limited leave to perform Kanya Puja and break the Navratri fast.

Dussehra (October 20, 2026): Officially declared as a government holiday of the state government. All schools, board offices, and government organizations will be closed on this day.

Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti (October 26, 2026)

Schools will be closed on Monday, October 26, 2026, on account of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. Just after Sunday, October 25, there will be a gap of two days from classes.
