Which city has the most billionaires in 2026?

New York has the most billionaires in 2026 and holds on to the top spot in the Hurun Global Rich List in 2026. It added 17 new billionaires this year, taking its total to 146. It's not really a surprise. Wall Street is there, along with most of the world's big banks, hedge funds, and real estate firms.

As long as money keeps moving through New York's financial system, it's likely to stay at the top of this list for some time.

China's Three Cities: Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing

Here's where things get interesting. China now has three cities sitting in the global top four, and the order shuffled around quite a bit this year.

Shenzhen was the big mover. It added 47 billionaires and climbed past Shanghai into second place worldwide, ending the year with 132 billionaires. Most of Shenzhen's wealth comes from technology and electronics, which have been booming in China lately.

Shanghai, which used to hold that second spot, slipped to third with 120 billionaires. It's still a powerhouse city, though, especially for finance and trade.

Beijing comes in fourth with 107 billionaires. Being the capital naturally pulls in a lot of large companies, and that shows up clearly in these numbers.

Put together, these three cities alone account for 359 billionaires, more than double what New York has on its own.

London is at the top City for the most billionaires in Europe

London sits at fifth place with 102 billionaires, making it Europe's top city by a wide margin. Real estate, retail, and financial services are the main industries driving this. London has held a strong position on this list for years now, and 2026 is no different.

Which Indian city is ranking in the Hurun Global Rich List 2026?

Mumbai remains India's richest city with 95 billionaires, easily ahead of any other Indian city. India as a whole added 57 new billionaires this year, taking its national total to 308, the third highest in the world after China and the US.

But there's a twist. Mumbai used to be Asia's top billionaire city, and this year it lost that title to Shenzhen. It's a small but telling sign of how fast China's tech wealth is growing compared to India's.

Hong Kong is in the Top 7

Hong Kong closes out the list with 88 billionaires. It remains one of the world's biggest financial hubs, and that's reflected in how many wealthy entrepreneurs and investors choose to base themselves there.

    Other Cities

The top 7 isn't the whole story. Hurun's report also points out a few cities that grew fast this year but didn't quite crack the list: San Francisco, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Moscow. San Francisco in particular is interesting, since it's home to Silicon Valley's tech giants but still trails behind Asian cities in raw billionaire count.

Zooming out a bit, Asia as a whole is now home to just under half of all the world's billionaires, making it the fastest growing region by this measure. Meanwhile, the "West," meaning the US, Europe, Canada, and Australia combined, still makes up 41% of the global list.

What stands out most in this year's list is how quickly China's cities are catching up to New York. Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing together now hold more billionaires than New York does alone, and that gap could keep shrinking. Mumbai is holding its ground for India, but the competition for "Asia's richest city" just got a lot tighter. One thing is clear: the map of global wealth is shifting, and it's shifting fast.
