West Bengal Government to Merge Madrasah Service Commission With WBSSC
West Bengal to merge Madrasah Service Commission with West Bengal School Service Commission. Recruitment of teachers to be done through a panel
According to reports, the West Bengal state government has initiated the process to abolish the Madrasah Service Commission and merge it with the School Service Commission. Through this move, teachers recruited to Madrasas will now be recruited through a panel. The decision was approved in a recent cabinet meeting and will now require legislative changes before being implemented.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, in a recent event, mentioned that the state government will abolish the Madrasah Service Commission and will merge it with the West Bengal School Service Commission. The school education department has reportedly stated that two separate bills are likely to be introduced in the state assembly. One is to seek the repeal of the West Bengal Madrasah Service Commission Act and the second proposing amendments to the WBSSC Act.
According to reports, once the bill is passed by the assembly, the same will be sent to the government for assent. A gazette notification will also be issued for the same.
The proposed merger is expected to bring recruitment of teachers for recognised madrasas under the framework of WBSSC. The move to merge the Madrasah comes amidst the government's efforts to streamline teacher recruitment and bring uniformity to the process.
According to reports, the WBSSC will be able to initiate the recruitment process only after the necessary amendments to the law are made. The recruitment will be conducted as per the provisions of the amended act and the rules framed under it.
Officials have also stated that the government is also expected to frame or amend the recruitment rules to specify the modalities for selection of madrasa teachers after the merger.
As per reports in the recent budget issued, out of 100,000 vacancies to be filled up in state government departments, 50,000 would be for teachers, professors and non-teaching staff.
