Jharkhand Dussehra School Holidays 2026
The major upcoming holiday period for students in October will be around Durga Puja and Dussehra. As per the state government's holiday calendar, schools and other institutions can observe holidays on October 19 and October 20.
October 18 falls on a Sunday. Therefore, students whose schools do not have classes on Saturdays may get a longer break around the festival. However, October 18 itself should not be described as a separate government-declared holiday, as it is a weekly Sunday and is not listed separately in the Jharkhand government's October holiday calendar.
The exact duration of the Durga Puja break may vary between schools. Government, government-aided and private schools can follow different academic calendars and may announce additional holidays or working days through separate circulars.
Long Weekend For Jharkhand Students
October 2026 could offer students an extended break around Dussehra, depending on their school's weekly schedule. October 17 is Saturday, October 18 is Sunday, October 19 is Monday and October 20 is Tuesday.
Students whose schools remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays could therefore get a four-day break from October 17 to October 20. However, October 17 is not listed as a state holiday in the government holiday calendar, so the four-day break will depend on the school's regular weekend schedule.
The earlier October holiday was Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, which fell on a Friday and could have provided a three-day weekend for students whose schools follow a Saturday-Sunday weekly off.
What Students And Parents Should Check
The Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of Jharkhand is the state's school education authority. Parents and students should check the department's official notifications as well as the latest circular issued by their individual school for the final holiday schedule.
Private schools may announce additional holidays around Durga Puja, while some schools may have scheduled classes on Saturdays. Therefore, students should confirm the dates with their school before planning travel or other activities.
