NEET 2026: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports took up the conduct of the NEET UG 2026 re-examination and deliberated on various measures to improve the existing entrance examination system in the country. The deliberation was participated by the committee members, Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, former ISRO Chairman and chairman of the high-level committee on reforms of National Testing Agency (NTA), Secretary of Higher Education Dr. Vineet Joshi, and NTA Director General Abhishek Singh, who apprised the committee about the process of re-examination and the measures to ensure security of the examination.
According to sources close to the proceedings, the committee deliberated upon various measures such as having separate entrance examinations for different medical courses, conducting the NEET in multiple sessions, and the readiness needed for computer-based examination system.
What Did The Officials Say?
As part of the discussion during the meet, it was decided by the committee members to conduct separate entrance tests for MBBS, AYUSH, and Nursing streams to solve the problem of too many students for one entrance test at the national level.
However, officials from the National Testing Agency informed the committee members that it is not possible to conduct separate entrance tests since admissions to MBBS, AYUSH, and Nursing are based on the NEET scores alone. It will make the admission process cumbersome if separate entrance tests are conducted for all three courses.
The members of the committee have also discussed about the possibility of conducting NEET in phases across various states rather than conducting the entrance test all across India in one single day. According to sources, the members felt that conducting NEET in phases would help in overcoming the enormous challenges faced while conducting the largest entrance test in the world.
There was also discussion on the application of CBT to NEET by the committee members. It was stressed by the members that the process of CBT must be done after the development of digital infrastructure in the entire nation and also after making all the preparations well ahead of time.
