The National Testing Agency (NTA) is facing fresh criticism after two separate controversies around this years UGC NET exam surfaced on the same day. One report has claimed that 67 out of 150 questions asked in the English question paper were actually repeated from the 2024 exam. At the same time candidates who appeared for the sociology paper on 30 June 2026 reported that it contained several mistakes, factual errors and poor Hindi Translation. The twin complaints have raised serious concerns over the quality checks followed in one of India’s most important exams for future assistant professors and PhD aspirants.

67 Question in English Paper Were Reported as Repeated

According to a report 67 question that were asked in the UGC NET English paper were the same as those asked in the 2024 exam. The report also said these repeated questions appeared in the paper 2 which is the subject specific section. It also claimed that even the sequence of answer options remained unchanged. Academics quoted in the report said such a large overlap should not happen in a national eligibility test. They warned that this could give an advantage to candidates who have already practiced old question papers during their preparation. The report added that NTA was approached for a response but no reply had come at that time.

Sociology Paper Triggers Outrage Over Errors and Translation

The Sociology question paper also sparked strong reactions online after candidates shared screenshots and posts pointing to spelling mistakes, weak grammar and confusing wordings. Researcher Antara Chakrabarty said a large part of the paper was badly written and difficult to understand. She claimed that names of major scholars were misspelled and that some words appeared completely wrong. She also said the hindi version of the questions was so poorly translated that many students struggled to understand what was being asked. Together these issues have intensified doubts over exam quality and fairness.
