West Bengal Education News: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has set an ambitious target of establishing at least 1,000 Vidya Bharati schools across the state within the next year. The proposed schools are to be spread across districts, municipalities and panchayats, with the stated objective of promoting what the Chief Minister described as “nationalistic learning.”

The announcement comes as the state government outlines a broader education reform agenda. Adhikari has also proposed bringing the state's four education departments under a single administrative structure.

1,000 Vidya Bharati Schools to Come Up Across West Bengal

According to the announcement, the target is to establish at least 1,000 Vidya Bharati-affiliated schools within one year. The proposed institutions are expected to be distributed across different administrative areas of West Bengal, including districts, municipalities and panchayats.

Vidya Bharati is the education wing associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Its schools are known for an emphasis on Indian culture, heritage and values.

What is the Aim Behind the Initiative?

Adhikari has described the proposed expansion in terms of nationalistic learning. The initiative is expected to focus on education alongside Indian cultural and traditional values. The announcement marks a significant proposed change in the state's education landscape, particularly with the plan to expand the presence of Vidya Bharati schools across rural and urban administrative areas.

West Bengal Education Departments May Be Merged

Alongside the school expansion plan, Adhikari has proposed restructuring the state's education administration. The proposal involves bringing four separate education departments under one administrative structure. The proposed arrangement would also do away with a separate administrative system for madrassa education, according to reports.  The proposed restructuring is part of a wider education policy agenda being discussed by the state government.
