The University of Kashmir was established in the year 1948 after independence, with the main aim of conducting examinations and providing best quality education to the students. The examinations are conducted at the headquarters i.e. Srinagar. In 1956, there was an initiation of three post graduate departments namely in English, Economics, and Geology. Since 1956, the institution has come a long way and has developed into a multi-faculty university, which imparts instruction in various subjects such as Faculty of arts, languages, natural sciences, social sciences, education and commerce and many more.

These subjects have provided great future prospects to the students. The university provides reasonably comfortable residential facilities to the students. Besides the residential facilities, the university also comprises of a library. It consists of vast collection of books, leading international and national journals and magazines.

However, to get into such institutions students need to clear entrance examination. One of them is JK SET which is known as Jammu and Kashmir state eligibility test. These entrance examinations are conducted to select candidates for lectureship in the university and colleges of Jammu and Kashmir. In the year 2013, the examination was conducted on 18th August. Once the examinations are conducted the results are expected to be published within two weeks from the exam date. It is mandatory for the students to secure a minimum marks separately in paper 1, 2, 3 as mentioned in the notification. The merit list of the students is prepared on the marks and only 15 % of the candidates will be declared SET qualified for eligibility for lectureship. The best part about these examinations is that there are no negative marking for the same. These examinations are not easy to crack. All such entrance examinations require hard work, persistence and focus. Candidates aspiring for entrance examinations should study and give more than 16 hours to these examinations. There is certain eligibility criterion for these examinations and it is mandatory for the students to abide by these eligibility criteria. For instance, students are supposed to be a minimum post graduate to appear for these examinations and a minimum percentage of 60 per cent is required to sit for the same.
