About NIT Calicut
National Institute of Calicut or NIT Calicut is a federally funded technical university and an institute of national importance which is passed by the act of parliament of India. The university was established in the year 1961 and was known as Calicut Regional engineering college until the year 2002. It is one of the national institutes of technology which is established by the government of India for imparting high standard technical education to the students from all over the country. The institute is very few in the country to host a super computer.
Until the formation of Calicut University, the institute was affiliated to Kerala University. The classes were initially held at the government polytechnic at West Hill, before it moved to its present campus in 1963. The college started with an annual intake of 125 students for the undergraduate courses, on a campus of 120 hectares.
The intake for the undergraduate courses was increased to 250 in 1996, 150 for the first year and 100 for preparatory course. The annual intake was reduced from 250 to 200 from the year 1968-69 on the account of industrial recession. The institute was a lead institute under the world- bank funded technical education quality improvement program which began in 2002. In 2003, students were first admitted to the flagship undergraduate B. Tech through All India engineering entrance exam. With the passing of the national institutes of technology Act, in 2007, NIT Calicut was declared an institute of national importance. In 2007, NIT Calicut raised its annual intake for undergraduate program to 570. The annual intake for undergraduate program was increased to 1049 by 2011.
Apart from there are various undergraduate courses offered by NITC including bachelor of technology, in various engineering fields and bachelor of architecture. There are also various post graduate courses offering master of technology. In addition, there is also various applied computer science and it also provides masters of business administration courses in the same. Not only this, there are different Ph.d programs available in all engineering and science disciplines and management. The MBA programs also offers electives in various streams such as finance, human resource management, operations management, business analytics, marketing, strategic management. The program was started in the year 2008 and the first batch of students was enrolled in the year 2009.
All these examinations play a very important role in the life of students. This is because the placements of the same is based on score obtained in these examinations.
