About NIT GOA
The National institute of technology, Goa is one of the ten newly set up NIT’s during the five year plan by the ministry of human resources development. The institute was set up using Rs 250 crore provided by central government. The first batches of students were admitted and academic activities of NIT Goa were started in the year 2010-11. During the initial years, NIT Goa was firstly mentored by the National institute of technology, Karnataka. In addition, the government had proposed that 50% of the seats in the institute should be reserved for the state of Goa.
The campus for the same is located at Farmagudi, and it was a temporary campus situated in which the institute was located. The government of India finally decided to reserve 50% of seats exclusively for the students living in Goa, in the national institute of technology, Goa from the academic year 2012-13. As far as administration is concerned, the institute operates with the complete autonomy in financial, academic, and administrative matters. The institute’s board of governors manages the institute. The board also consist of representatives from the government of India, government of Goa, All India council of technical education, university grants commission, the institute’s faculty and illustrious Indian scientists or technologists.
In the present scenario, the three storey building inside the Goa Engineering college campus is renovated and refurbished with various classrooms, laboratories, administrative section and a conference hall. Each classroom, laboratory, and conference hall possesses advanced facilities such as multimedia projectors and internet. Also the section of GEC has been allocated by the state government to house few classrooms and laboratories for NITG till it gets its campus.
Every year there are large numbers of students who are selected into the institute based on their JEE ranks, and the category they belong to. The competition is really stiff and only roughly 50,000 students out of 14, 00,000 students appearing for the exam get selected into NIT’s and IIT’s through a two tier common admission test called the Joint Entrance examination which ensures that the cream of nations engineering aspirants are admitted.
Not only this, there are also various festivals organized by the students in the institution. Participants from all over the nation come and take part in the same. All such festivals play an important role in the growth and development of students.
There are also technical activities such as departmental gathering, workshops, guest lectures and other various competitions organized by the department as well in order to equip students and make them proficient.
