About NIT Hamirpur
NIT is commonly referred as National Institute of technology,Hamirpur is a public college which is located in the state of Himachal Pradesh. This institute is funded by the government of India, and conducts both undergraduate and post graduate programs in the field of Engineering and architecture and doctor of philosophy program in the field of engineering.
The institution was established in the year 1986 as regional engineering college, Hamirpur in the Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh. The institution on the first place was a joint enterprise of government of India and government of Himachal Pradesh. It has also been awarded as the status of Institute of National Importance by an act of Parliament and is considered as the best NIT in terms of infrastructure by World Bank. Thus, to get into NIT it is extremely important for a student to appear for Joint entrance examination and clear the set cut off and levels. Students are awarded bachelor degree after eight semesters while the students who have opted architecture are supposed to complete ten semesters to be awarded bachelor of architecture. The post graduate courses in masters of technology, masters of sustainable architecture are cleared by appearing for graduate aptitude test in engineering exam.
In addition to this, there are various facilities such as computer center, which successfully caters to the academic needs of the department. The aim of the same is to provide professional services, and promote the use of new and upgraded technology among the students, staff and administration. Another big addition to the facilities is the central library of the institution. The institute library was set up in the year 1986 and in the present scenario, it can accommodate up to 500 people in the reading halls and around 100 in the audio visual hall. There are sports facilities as well in the campus in order to make students well equipped with outdoor and physical activities as well.
Not only this, there are festivities every year. All these festivities are organized by the students under different clubs and societies. All such cultural events are organized at national level, and students from all over the nation take part in the same. Nimbus, one of the annual technical festival of national institute of technology, is seen to be an amalgamation of ideas, expressions, innovations, proto types, and all the activities in the same are taken to the most premier levels.
