About NIT Kurukshetra

NIT is popularly known as National institute of technology or NIT Kurukshetra is a public engineering university which is located in Kurukshetra. In December 2008, the university was accredited the status of Institute of National Importance. The university runs both under graduate and post graduate programs in engineering and the doctor of philosophy programs in engineering, science, and humanities.

As far as undergraduate courses are concerned admissions into courses such as bachelor of technology, before the year 2000 the admissions were made through a regional exam of the state government. From the year 2003 to 2012 the admissions were made on the basis of merit in the All India engineering entrance examination. The exam basically consisted of three sections on Mathematics, Physics, and chemistry. Every year more than 1,000,000 students appear for these examinations. However, it was from the year 2013, admissions are provided on the basis of merit list of Joint Entrance examination. TShis is one of the common examinations for all the premier universities in India. As per the rules and regulations in these examinations, ranks are given after considering 60% of the score in the test and 40% in the class 12th examinations. And for foreign students the admissions are done through Direct Admission of student’s abroad scheme.

When it comes to post graduate courses, there are courses such as Master of technology in which students can seek admission through GATE score, masters of business administration, through CAT/JMET score followed by group discussions and personal interview. And the last one is master of computer application through NIMCET scores. For M. Tech admission the seats are filled up by admitting GATE qualified students and then by the industry sponsored candidates. The remaining vacant seats in the same are offered to the Non GATE candidates with minimum of 60% marks in the qualifying examination. While GATE candidates are eligible for scholarship of Rs 8000/- per month, non -gate candidates are not given any kind of scholarship.

When a student seeks admission in any institution, apart from the academics the other main aspect is that of placement. There are large numbers of companies which visit the college premises and recruit students. Recruitment of students is done purely on the basis of their performance in the interview as well as the scores are also taken into consideration. In the recent years, students have also been selected in the Indian Army to serve the nation with pride and honor.
