About NIT Meghalaya
National Institute of technology, Meghalaya or NIT Meghalaya is one of the 30 national institutes of technology, situated in Shillong, Meghalaya. The funding into this institute is supported from the ministry of human resource development, government of India. The institute at present functions from its temporary campus which is located in Shillong of the Northern Eastern Hill University. The first batch of engineering was initiated in the year 2010. The institute has following disciplines in B.tech programs such as electronics and communication engineers, computer science and engineering, civil engineering, and mechanical engineering.
Admissions into the same previously were based on AIEE known as All India entrance examinations, but the same were replaced to Joint entrance examination conducted by the central board of secondary education and also through counselling sessions conducted by the central seat allocation board. The institute also offers post graduate courses in the field of mathematics, physics, chemistry and bio technology. There are also five year integrated courses offered by institute.
In addition, the MBA program will start from the 2015-16 session. Not only MBA program, there are also doctorate programs which has already started in August 2013. The departments and areas in which these programs will be offered are;
Computer science and engineering and the areas are computer networks, network security, artificial intelligence, soft computing, pattern recognition, verification of hybrid systems, formal methods, application of high performance computing.
Electronics and computer engineering
Electronics and electrical engineering; power quality, power stability system, automatic generation control, power electronics, renewable energy distribution.
Civil engineering; areas (structural engineering)Physics; areas ( liquid crystals)
The institute also admits students under their doctorate programs. Some of the categories are mentioned below;
Full time; scholars under this category are supposed to work full time for P.hd courses/ research. They also receive fellowship and assistantship offered by the institute or other funding agencies.
Sponsored; the students under these are admitted through normal process and are not entitled to any fellowship and assistantship.
Project fellow; students can be admitted into various research projects to satisfy the eligibility criteria and can work on different research projects.
Part time; it is important for the students to who have already taken admission into the Ph.d to fulfill the stipulated requirements for the admission.
Apart from these, there are various departments such as computer science and engineering, which offers B.Tech degree in computer science and consist of an average intake of approximately 30 students. Besides this, there are electrical and electronics engineering, electronics and communication engineering, civil engineering and etc.
