About NIT, Patna
National Institute of Patna formerly was known as Bihar school of engineering and Bihar college of Engineering is a public engineering college situated in Patna, Bihar. The same was renamed to NIT Patna, by the government of India on January 28, 2004. NIT Patna is one of the sixth oldest engineering college in India, and its origin can be traced to 1886 with the establishment of survey training school and thereby renaming it to Bihar college of Engineering in 1900. Further in 1924, a graduate level curriculum was introduced and in 1932 the college was renamed as Bihar college of Engineering. Recently in the year 2007 it was granted the status of institute of national importance, in accordance with the national institute of technology act, 2007.
Thus, it goes without saying that over the years the institute has developed and immense opportunities have been added to the curriculum. Discussing about the facilities, the institute maintains a central library which comprise of more than 50,000 books and 1,100 e-journals and works for around 5 hours in a day. The central library has an e- resource section on the ground floor, a study section on the first floor and a separate section for computer related books on the second floor. The institute also has access to computer labs to sharpen the students programming skills and also to provide hands on experience with the use of software in the field of study. Apart from computer labs, the institute runs a computer center which includes multiple computer labs and a virtual classroom equipped with computing and audio visual facilities, such as interactive boards, projectors etc. The labs also have CCTV cameras basically for conducting online interviews, tests, and for taking presentations.
In addition, there are also various departments in the engineering field such as department of civil engineering, which covers areas such as water resource engineering, structural engineering, and transportation engineering. There are also various doctoral programs offered by the department as well. The department undertakes proof checking of engineering designs, detailed projects reports and also consultancy services to the governmental and non- governmental agencies.
Department of electronics and communication engineering also offers courses or undergraduate programs such as electrical power system, electrical machines, control system, microprocessors, digital signal processing etc
Extracurricular activities are also offered by institute and all such activities provide opportunities to the students to develop their oft skills and broaden their prespective.
