About NIT, Srinagar
The national institute of technology, Srinagar is a national engineering located in Srinagar. It is one of the 30 NIT’s in India and is directly under the control of Ministry of Human resource development. The institute has recognition of Institute of National importance under NIT act and the institute has successfully produced more than 8000 graduates.
NIT Srinagar was established in the year 1960 as the regional engineering college, Srinagar. This institute was one of the first eight regional engineering colleges which was established by government of India during the first five year plan. The institute was shifted to the present campus in the year 1965. In the year 2003, the institution was granted Deemed University status with the approval of the University grants commission, All India council of technical education and government of India. Now in the present day the institute conducts its own academics, along with the other NIT’s and IIT’s of India, and it indeed plays a pivotal role in training and transforming the students and faculty into well trained and highly motivated engineers, scientists, technologists who become knowledge makers as well knowledge users for contributing to nation building with degree of professional excellence.
There are various departments in the institute itself. For instance, department of Chemical engineering which was started in the year 1963 with a five year degree program and later the same was converted into four year degree program. The first batch to pass out was in the year 1985. Since then the department has successfully produced more than 2000 chemical graduates and majority of them have been working in different parts of the country. Some of them have also been serving abroad and are placed in one of the most reputed organizations. Also at post graduate level in the institution, students are trained to assumed responsibilities laying emphasis on the academics and are taught to carry out research and other activities.
Another department in the institution is department of computer science and engineering. The department was started in the year 2007 which offered under graduate courses imparting knowledge in various spheres such as graphics, database management, data mining, human computer interaction and etc. The department leaves no stone unturned to provide qualitative education to the students. Not only this, students are regularly updated with various research and innovations taking place. Apart from this, there are other departments as well which make sure that students are evolved in a positive way.
