About NIT Tiruchirappalli
NIT Tiruchirappalliis popularly known as National institute of technology is a public engineering institution located 20 km near the city of Tamil Nadu. The institute was founded in the year 1964 to serve the country’s growing need for technological man power. About 3500 students every year are absorbed in both under graduate and post graduate programs at the institute. The institute was a collaborative venture between the government of India and government of Tamil Nadu in order to cater to the country’s need for man power in technology.
The institute offers undergraduate and post graduate programs in engineering, science, architecture and management. The same comprise of 16 departments including about 250 faculty members and more than 3400 enrolled students. As per the statistics, in the year 2008 the annual intake for B. tech program was 530 with the student faculty ratio of almost 14:1. In the year 2011, more than one million students wrote this test in order to seek admission in the 30 NIT’s. This statistics certainly makes it one of the largest examinations in the world. The NIT also follows a reservation policy declared by the supreme court of India, in which 27% of the seats are reserved for other backward classes, 15% of the seats for scheduled castes, and 7.5% for scheduled tribes.
As far as the trainings and placement is concerned, the placement department of the institute arranges for companies to conduct on campus interviews in order to recruit students from NIT’s. Over 160 companies participate in the placement process every year. Not only this, a lot of students from the metallurgical department of NIT received scholarships to pursue M. Tech in the national university of Singapore.
Besides the academic part, there are various cultural festivities which are organized by the institute. It goes without saying that each and everything is managed by the bunch of students. This is how students learn to manage things and also their managerial skills are conditioned respectively.
All such festivals comprise of fun, entertainment, integrated with responsibility and awareness creating a holistic and magical environment making this festival grand and nation -wide. There are approximately 23 events which successfully take place in the festival and students from the entire country come and take part in the same. Judges are appointed for every event and accordingly the results for the same are declared. All such activities play a very important role in the development and grooming of a student. It is only through such activities students learn and thereby grow.
