Duolingo has launched a brand new course called Learn English from Punjabi. The course helps Punjabi speakers learn English in a simple and friendly way. It is designed for learners in India and across the world. Punjabi is spoken by more than 100 million people globally. Large Punjabi communities live in India, Canada, UK, USA and Australia. The course lets learners begin studying English through Gurmukhi. The Gurmukhi script is widely used as Punjabi script in India. A Second Regional Course for North India
This launch is Duolingo’s second regional language English course for North India. It follows the popular Hindi Course. Punjabi now joins a growing family of regional language courses on the platform. That family already includes Hindi, Bengali, Telugu and Tamil. Karandeep singh kapany is the regional marketing director for India and south east asia at Duolingo. He said launching this course in his mother tongue is incredibly meaningful. He called it a moment of real pride for him. He also shared that Punjabis have long embraced opportunities beyond borders. They pursue education careers and new business around the world. By offering English learning in Punjabi Duolingo will help remove language barriers. This enables more people to access the opportunities that English can unlock.
